Coppinger: Roman Reigns retained his WWE undisputed universal championship with a victory over LA Knight on Saturday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, at Crown Jewel.WWE’s top star, as usual, was aided by The Bloodline to retain the company’s top prize for the 1,161st day, one of the longest reigns in history. After Knight planted Reigns with his finisher, Blunt Force Trauma, Reigns’ cousin, Jimmy Uso, was there to place the champ’s foot on the bottom rope. Knight quickly handled the interference by driving Uso through the announce table. But shortly thereafter, Reigns capitalized by spearing the challenger through the barricade. Another spear inside the ring gave Reigns the 1-2-3 over Knight in an entertaining main event that’s followed a formulaic script for much of Reigns’, well, reign. That is, the plucky underdog threatened to win the match before Reigns was saved by The Bloodline, followed by a spear to continue his run as WWE’s top champion.Days short of his 41st birthday, Knight found himself in the biggest match of his career. It’s been a stunning ascent for Knight, one of WWE’s fastest-rising stars. And he delivered in the ring with a solid match against Reigns. But just like all the others, it wasn’t enough to overcome Reigns and The Bloodline. The matchup was Reigns’ first title defense since he defeated his cousin Jey Uso at SummerSlam in August. What’s next: Weeks ahead of Survivor Series in Chicago, look for LA Knight and Roman Reigns to find themselves on opposing teams in a War Games matchup. And if this main event proved anything, it’s that Knight is here to stay.
